Birthday Cake

Yesterday was G's B-Day.  He turned 10.  My second to go to double didgets, what's up with that??!!

Happy Birthday to my little man...he is not so little anymore, but as I tell them all the time, they are always my babies!

For his cake I made these little minions.  We like minions here in our house.

The minions are the funniest part of the whole movie!

Just a little music for you...

The movie is super cute.  If you don't know what I am talking about, go check out Despicable Me.

Birthday #1

With two boys sharing a birthday, it is tricky to make each one special.

This year with K turning 12, we are celebrating his birthday on Sunday when all the extended family comes for his priesthood ordination.  M gets his "real" birthday today.  :)

Each birthday person in my family gets a cake made by me as their special "Mom present".  The boys especially love to pour over my books choosing the cake that they want that year.

M chose a "bowl of popcorn" in his favorite color green.

I was excited that he picked such an easy cake because it went together really fast (it only took me about an hour...)  I probably could have done it in a longer time making it smoother and taking the time to attach things to it better, but we are chowing down on it tonight and I didn't!  :)

Let Them Eat Cake

Ok.  The last tradition I am going to post about is cake.  Most of my traditions center around food!  :)  Every year I let my kids pick a cake they want for their birthday.  I tell them that it is my special gift to them for their birthday.  Right now it is just a fun thing that they look forward to, but maybe later in life they might see it as something special.  (at least I hope so)  When I first started most of my cakes were from a pan...

While that was a great start...some get pretty elaborate over the years.  If I am lucky, my boys pick one that is easy and only takes me a couple hours!  :)  I thought it might be fun to show you a few of my favorites over the years.  (some I am sure you have seen if you have read my blog for a while, sorry)

Spaghetti and Meatballs...and Aliens

Alligator and Pizza
(funny story:  One kid wouldn't eat the "Pizza" because he was allergic to cheese...no matter how many times I told him it was icing, not cheese!)

Dragon

I love to make cakes and have made them for many people over the years, but my very favorite people to make them for are my family!

G's B-Day

Well.

Because we don't do friend parties anymore,  (whole 'nother story there!) birthdays seem to get spread out for a few days around here.  We usually give presents the weekend before the birthday, then do Tony Roma's (because that coupon is pretty nice), then cake on the actual day.

G's birthday is today so it is finally cake time.

He really wanted this robot cake.  Not my favorite cake (or subject), but he was thrilled!  Easy peasy and quick.

Cheers

BTW, we also had our first home visit with our adoption case worker today.  We think it went well.  (hopefully) So we are supposed to have a few more (she said maybe 5 or so) so it will take about 5 weeks or less.  Yay for finally getting this next part started!

Deux Gateau

(the title is my steller french skills! ha ha)  Anyway, K wanted string monsters for his "cake" for his b-day...so here are a few of the colors...

Go be dry (we are raining again...not so great!)

Cake #1, and a Review...

First, today we celebrated M's birthday.  (M and K have birthdays on the same day so we separate and celebrate on two days...)

So, we went to see Karate Kid for them.  (and me!)

Ok.  If you haven't seen the first ones, then this one is most awesome!  If you have, it is still a good movie, but it is pretty much the same story.

I have to say though, I enjoyed this version a bit more.  (but I have to say how surprised I was that I enjoyed last nights movie more...this is me being super baffled!)

There is language, (but not much) there is fighting, and I cried.  Pretty much sums the movie right up!  :)  It is worth a watch though.  That little Jaden Smith is an amazing actor.

Continuing on our day we also had cake...

M wanted a Crocodile so that is what he got.  We all ate it tonight and it is missing most vital parts!  :)

I have a post for detailing flooding in our area.  Lets just say that for the past two (ish) days, my camera has been busy recording this amazing amount of water.

Until then, keep dry.

2 cakes...

So my second baby is getting baptized. He decided to forgo his B-day cake so that we could have it when he gets baptized for the supper.

So of course I had to make a large one to feed everyone! :) I thought that this one would be suitable as we are doing a really special day where he needs some pretty special clothes...so here is his "missionary shirt". But then I found out that Kenzie (who is also getting baptized and we are having a joint supper) didn't have a birthday cake...so I didn't plan on it so here is my super quick, HOLY CRAP I NEED A CAKE, what should I do? Cake. Simple. Quick. And kind of cute.

Happy UnBirthday To Us...

We got to make birthday cakes today...as you can see, they were a big hit...and super messy! :)

So, although the boys thought I was crazy when they pulled the slip this morning...they had fun and loved that they could eat all the candies, icing, and cakes they wanted. Not very often that happens at our house! :) It was fun that the girls could come too.

Here is my latest cake...It was super fun to make...not as tricky as I thought and the boys get a kick out of it. Hope that Berkley likes it as much as they do. :)

Well, today is my last day of my photography course...I am so thrilled to have taken it! We get to go on a field trip today and I am so looking forward to practicing som more of the skills...

...speaking of skills. Jocelyn requested a cake I have never made (although it is one of my favorite kinds). I was so excited to try one homemade. It worked so well, I made two. It was super yummy and it looked so pretty. 12 people make it disapper quick though and when we left, it was just 2 portions to go! :)

Next week I have another really cool one to make so stay tuned! too bad it is not scratch and taste! :)

Just a little PS...for those of you who are close enough...
I still make them as a side business. Just because I took my stuff off FaceBook for Arty Edibles does not mean I don't make them anymore. Thanks to all who are still calling me dispite that. You ROCK! ;)

Chelsey's cake

Sorry there has been so many posts lately....I am a blogging machine! :)

There were a few requests to see this cake I made, so here it is. I made it for a friend's, daughter's 14th birthday. It was fun to make. :)

Sorry the pictures are not the best, but still pictures I guess.

Mermaids are cool

So Verenice "tricked" me into making Chloe's b-day cake. Well, I was easily persuaded as I really wanted to make one of these. It was so much fun. Thanks Vernice for letting me make whatever I wanted to! :)

Gardening

So I am getting spring fever...G's class was having a fundraiser and needed cupcakes. So here is my garden. It will have to do me until I can have a real one. :) The radishes were pretty fun...I love rolling gumdrops!
Funny part of the lettuce is that they are bran flakes...so that makes them good for me right??!!

I was too lazy to make the shovels and signs...OK...I admit it, I figured it would be wasted on elementry kids so I didn't make them. And for $0.50 each, I didn't feel like it...you caught me! :)
