Food Storage Friday - All Natural Healing

I am prone to get strep throat once every other year or so.

Just happens.

I am awesome like that!

This past year (or two)  I have been experimenting on myself with some natural remedies.  I have some that are "tried and true" that we have been using for years with the whole family, but sometimes I just want to test something out.  Who better than myself because that is how I know it actually worked!

Anyway, jabber, jabber, jabber.

Just to tell you about this new thing I tried.

It is kind of a cure all for cold/strep/etc.

I think it basically scares your stuff away!

I made a mixture of:

4-8 Cloves Garlic, chopped fine
1 Tbsp Honey
1/4 tsp Cayenne Pepper

Mix well and take 1 tsp every waking hour for two to three days.

Interesting tidbit, 4 cloves of garlic (raw) is equal to one dose of antibiotic.

I react to antibiotics, all of them, with a really upset stomach.  This was just the same.  I gagged it down for 3 days and all my strep symptoms were gone.

Granted I could have had something else, but this cleared it right up.  My swollen lymph nodes, my throat that felt like I was swallowing crushed glass, my crazy plugged nose.  Everything.

I felt like I was going to puke it all up, but that was no different than any other antibiotic regimen and was 7 days less!

I am not a Dr.  I have no medical training, but this worked for me.  Because there is honey (and the garlic/pepper combo is super hot) I would suggest older children, not babies for this.

Cheers

A Little Tip...

This past few weeks my cold decided it really wanted to be a wicked cough.

It was so gross that I was getting possibly (if we really were optomistic) 2 hours of total sleep a night.

Then I was talking to my Mom (she quite possibly knows everything) and she mentioned that my brother swore that Vicks on the bottom of your feet helped with cough.

I don't find that Vicks helps me when I put it on my chest, but I like the smell of it (I am wierd like that) so I thought I would give it a try...

...IT WORKS!

Wierd but true, Vicks rubbed on the bottom of your feet makes you stop coughing at night.

And as an added bonus, you can sleep!

I have tried it on my son as well, and it works with him...so I think it is not a fluke just for me.  I am adding this to my permanant storage list.

Cheers

Body Shirts

Today we made the coolest things for our health unit study.  I LOVE studying the human body and the really cool stuff we have inside us.  Let me show you:

Isn't that the coolest shirt?!  I love it!

I bought some fabric markers (the only place I could find them was Michaels...use your coupon if you buy them!) and plain white shirts.  You need to print off these patterns:

We taped them together and taped it to the cardboard.  We then stuck it inside our white shirt.  Using a black sharpie we traced the lines onto our shirts.

We found it easiest to color and trace by taping it onto the floor so that it didn't move around.

Seriously it was so fun to make.  They took about 3 - 4 hours to make and wear right after.  (unless your markers need to dry a bit more, ours didn't)

My boys are wearing them with brain hats we made the other day as well.  (link is right here if you want to make some)

Cheers
