Field Trip: Cross Country Skiing

I guess this is more like a PhysEd outing...or something, but we used it as a nature "walk" / PhysEd / "let's get Mommy out of the crazy house and burn off some energy" sort of thing that I am going to call a field trip!

Our local nature preserve park has snowshoes and cross country skis for rent.  Super cheap ($4 per person per hour)  and fun.  Great workout too!  (my butt was sore for a week!)  So, when we finally got some snow for the winter we took off and enjoyed it.  The weather was nice and warm too so we didn't have to bundle very much.

I haven't been skiing for over 20 years so I was super excited to find out that I could still do it!  (even though I did manage to fall on a hill...)

My baby just picked it up like walking.  He wasn't super fast, but he was a little trucker.  The loop was about 10km and he did the whole thing in just over an hour!

Our snow has since disappeared, but it sure was fun to take my boys out for a ski while it was here.

Cheers

Snow and "Bisquick"

he he he...told you I liked these misc posts and was going to do more!  :)

So, on Tuesday morning I woke up all excited to get my windows outside painted.  (this is one of the last things we need to do before we can list our house)  Well, I looked out my window and look, this is what I found...

SNOW!  What the heck?!  It is April for pete's sake!

Needless to say, I didn't paint.  I was quite disappointed.  (Oh well, on Wed I got lots of cleaning done with my Mom...although I would have much rather painted...she is the one that likes to clean!)

Well, what do you do for PhysEd when it is snowing out and you can't go swimming because taxes were flippin espensive? (different story... I am sure you all have a similar one)  You do this with your kids...

All 3 were so co-operative in building a snowman.  The snow was super wet and heavy so it took true teamwork to get the snowballs on top of eachother!  If you enlarge the picture you might be able to see how red their faces are because of the grunting effort it took!  :)

Now, because I am a wonderful Mom, I was inside where it was dry and warm...and when I was taking pictures of the finished snowman...I saw this poor starving little boy.  :)  So I thought, O dear, I better make some dinner...and it better be good because my poor little men MUST be starving!

So, I broke out the quick mix (it is just like bisquick, only homemade and with powdered milk, I posted about it here).  I have been experimenting with a month full of menu's and so I grocery shop once a month...well, I was running low on almost everything because I am shopping today and still working out the kinks of doing shopping this way...so here is what I made.

In order of importance...dessert first!  Both made entirely with food storage!  This is pineapple upside down cake and chicken tamale casserole.  (made with chicken TVP!)

So, that was my adventure on Tuesday.  We finished eating the cake yesterday...it was so delish!  (and my arm got a workout from scrubbing cupboards!)  Today is a huge shopping trip!  (my boys are not looking forward to it, but I bribe them with samples from Costco!)

Two reviews, a trip to the moon, and lots of wax

Love my title...gotta do more like this!  :)  The whole post is really just an eclectic mix of the mish-mash in my brain.

So this weekend P was home for 3 whole days!  (gotta love a long weekend!)  So we took the boys to "How to Train Your Dragon".

What a fun movie!  It was well worth it.  The story was excellent, the "objectional content" almost non-existant (there is some mild violence when the dragons attack the village in the opening sequence, and later at the end when a large dragon is fought) and it is fun for all ages.  (I think that P and I laughed just as many times as our kids, and that includes M who is almost 5)  We didn't see it in 3D but that was a personal preference.  I would TOTALLY recommend seeing this movie it was one of the best kids movies I have seen.

Another review:

We bought the card version of Sorry.  I love the board game, have since I was a kid, so I put off buying this for a while.

So, it took a bit to convince me to buy it.  Well, I am sad it took so long for me to do so.  :)  It is an excellent game and it can be played by anyone who can add.  (which is not me, sad to say...he he he)  You have to add to 21 and that gets you your pawns home.  There are fun little cards in there that take away another persons 21 and some that save it.  We have played this MANY times in the past few days...so I would totally say it is worth the $7 (or if you go to WalMart right now there are 2 packs of these board games turned card games right now for $9).

We took a trip to the moon....

Well, not really.

But it was fun.

We went to Red Rock Coulee with my parents after Easter Dinner on Friday.  It was a place we had never been before and it was worth the trip.  There are huge rocks that are full of lichen so they look red.  (or orange)  They are just all over the place and so you can run around, see the pretty flowers, climb some wicked hills, or get stuck in the mud...O wait, that was just me!  :)  It was a great place to go and see though, and we will totally go again.

So, on Kijiji a while ago I picked up this:

LOTS of wax!  Well, it is only 6 blocks of 4 Kg each, but still, lots of wax!  We are going to make a bunch more of the Sawdust Candles that I posted here about, and probably a bunch more of the little eggies (I told you we were geeks. Ours are fastly dwindling because we love to have fires!  Safely of course in our fire pit!).  I think I will keep a few for canning emergencies...or watever.  But if you ever need wax, don't go to Michaels...it costs $40 for one of these blocks, or through the seller on Kijiji, $10 each!  Whoo Hooo!  Bargans I do love!  :)

Did anyone LOVE conference this weekend as much as me?!  I loved so many of the wonderful talks...next Wordful Wednesday is about Mothers, and the General RS Pres gave an amazing talk all about that very topic.  So, watch for that.  :)

And lastly...my experiment with my "weighty issue" that I blogged about here...I am losing!  YAY!  Even right after Easter Dinner (which was amazingly delicious, Thanks again Mom) I have still lost 5lbs and am not hungry or crabby.  :)  Horray!

Hope your Easter Weekend was awesome!

Cheers

Golfing

So we got to go golfing this past weekend. Nana had never been and the boys love the little putting greens at one of the Golf places here...so here we are golfing. It was fun.
